Exterior house painting in Cincinnati

Ohio weather decides how long it lasts

Cincinnati exteriors take a beating: freeze-thaw cycles that lift paint off wood, humid summers that feed mildew, and winter damp that finds every unsealed joint. A finish that would last a decade in a dry climate fails here in three if the preparation was rushed.

So we wash the surface, scrape and sand everything that is failing, prime bare wood the same day it is exposed, and caulk the joints before painting instead of painting over them.

What we paint outside

Deck staining by Pronto Painting Cincinnati
Our work: deck staining and sealing.

Decks: stain usually beats paint

A deck is horizontal, so it holds water, and paint on a horizontal surface eventually peels in sheets. Stain penetrates instead of sitting on top, wears gradually rather than failing, and is far easier to refresh. We will recommend stain for most decks and explain why rather than selling you the bigger job.

Timing

Exterior work needs the right conditions to cure. Late spring through early autumn is the window in Cincinnati. If you call us in November we will usually tell you to wait until spring — we would rather book you in than hand you a finish that fails.

What it costs

Exterior pricing depends on size, height, and above all the condition of what is there now. A house with sound paint needing a refresh and a house with widespread failure are different jobs at different prices. We look properly and put the estimate in writing, free.

Where we work

Our shop is on Leona Drive, so the West Side is home: Covedale, Cheviot, Bridgetown, Green Township, Colerain Township, Westwood and Delhi Township. We also work throughout greater Cincinnati including Madeira, Indian Hill, Kenwood, Hyde Park, Oakley, Mariemont and Anderson Township, and across the river in Florence, Kentucky.

Common questions

When is the best time to paint an exterior in Cincinnati?
Late spring through early autumn, when temperature and humidity let the paint cure properly.
How long does exterior paint last here?
On properly prepared siding, typically seven to ten years. Preparation matters more than the brand of paint.
Do you pressure wash first?
Yes, always. See pressure washing.
Do you paint decks and fences?
Yes, including staining and sealing, which is usually the better choice for a deck.
